Chicago, 1924. For jazz trumpeter Lester Lane, the 'Windy City' is about to get a whole lot windier. On the run from the mob, Lester scores a desperate gig for his trio – dapper pianist Hank Arvin, with old-timer 'Iron Willie' on drums (among other things). Only trouble is, the booking is for a funeral, over in the backwoods of Illinois – where they sure ain't never heard of Tiger Rag. What happens then proves to Lester and his band that a White Zombie is far, far more than a fancy cocktail…


I.N.J. Culbard


I.N.J. Culbard is an award-winning artist and writer.

Early collaborations with writer Ian Edginton on adaptations for SelfMadeHero (The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Hound of the Baskervilles, A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four and The Valley of Fear) led on to their subsequent series Brass Sun for 2000 AD. He has also worked with Dan Abnett on original series including The New Deadwardians (Vertigo), Dark Ages (Dark Horse Comics), Wild’s End (Boom Studios) and Brink (2000 AD). Other recent projects include Everything, written by Christopher Cantwell (Berger Books) and You Look Like Death, written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon (Dark Horse).

Culbard has produced a number of his own adaptations for SelfMadeHero, including the H.P. Lovecraft stories At the Mountains of Madness, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, The Shadow Out of Time and Robert W. Chambers’ The King in Yellow. Other work includes Deadbeats (with Chris Lackey and Chad Fifer) and Culbard’s first solo original graphic novel, Celeste.

Chad Fifer


Chad Fifer co-hosts the H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast and works as a film and fiction writer in Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife. He is the author of the coming of age novel Children in Heat and co-wrote the graphic novel Deadbeats. He also adapted 'The Hound' for SelfMadeHero's The Lovecraft Anthology: Volume II.

Chris Lackey


Chris Lackey is the co-host of the H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast. An American filmmaker and animator, Chris directed and co-wrote the animated feature film The Chosen One and was the associate producer of the films The Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer in the Darkness. He co-wrote the graphic novel Deadbeats and adapted 'The Temple' for SelfMadeHero's Lovecraft Anthology: Volume II. Chris lives and works in Yorkshire, England.
