A night of drinking, drawing and dames!

We’ve teamed up with Dr. Sketchy’s to celebrate the publication of Jose-Luis Bocquet and Catherine Muller’s award-winning biography Kiki de Montparnasse being published in English for the fist time this February.

Dr. Sketchy’s is an anti-art school “where life drawing meets cabaret!”. The Dr Sketchy’s movement was started in New York by illustrator Molly Crabapple and it is now an international phenomenon, taking place in over a 150 cities round the globe.

This is the advice that Dr Sketchy’s give to noobs:

“It’s an art class for everyone and no previous artistic ability is required. So don’t be shy: put pencil to paper, move it around and see what happens – you might be surprised!”

A Dr Sketchy's evening at The Paradise

We’ll be co-hosting events in several cities – Leeds, Edinburgh (TBC), London for starters with more to be announced coming months but the first Dr Sketchy’s event that we’re announcing is the London event, which will take place on 28th February at a lovely venue called The Paradise in Kensal Rise.

The evening will be extra special with Kiki de Montparnasse-themed poses, performances and prizes provided by us. We’ll also have 1920s tunes playing on the gramophone. Who could ask for more!

The muse of a generation, she was one of the first emancipated women of the 20th century, making her mark with her freedom of style, word and thought learned from the school of life.

This is what Clare-Marie from Dr Sketchy’s London had to say about the acts who will be performing:

“The life modelling and burlesque will be from the truly scrumptious international starlet MARIANNE CHEESECAKE and the beautiful BOOM VOYAGE. These two charming creatures will be posing for your pencils and dancing for your delectation. Hosting this debauched night of drinking and drawing, the queen of cabaret, OPHELIA BITZ.”

That’s right – Ophelia Bitz. The mind boggles! We’re big fans of Dr Sketchy’s evening here at SelfMadeHero HQ and are really looking forward to these nights out (we don’t don’t out much, y’see).

We’ll all be there sketching Ms Cheesecake and Boom Voyage and selling signed copies of Kiki at a very special price. These are the details you’ll need to secure a place, but be quick, this event will sell out…
